Italian Grilled Cheese Sandwich

With the flavor you get from Pilacca hot sauce on this sandwich, you might not even need that bowl of tomato soup!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup good olive oil
  • 1 large clove garlic, split to remove skin
  • 8 slices crusty Italian bread
  • Pilacca hot sauce (to taste)
  • 1 pound smoked fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 8 basil leaves, torn
  • Prosciutto or Salami (optional (but not really optional))

Steps to Prep

  1. Heat a pan over medium low to medium heat.
  2. Heat oil and garlic in a small pot over low heat to make garlic oil.
  3. Brush 4 slices of the bread with garlic oil on 1 side, and spread Pilacca hot sauce on the other side.
  4. Place bread garlic oil side down on the pan. Top with sliced cheese, basil, and meat if you opted for it.
  5. Spread Pilacca hot sauce on 1 side of each remaining pieces of bread. Place on top of each sandwich.
  6. Brush sandwiches with garlic oil. Press sandwiches with heavy skillet or a brick covered with tin foil.
  7. Toast sandwiches on both sides to melt cheese.
  8. Enjoy!
