About Us

It all started with the Muzzarelli Bros. Grocery in the Village of DePue; est. 1945. Inspired to bring quality food to their family and community, Anthony Muzzarelli & Louis "Bud" Muzzarelli took ownership of a small local grocery and got to work. If you asked any of the locals what the brothers' grocery was most known for, it was the butcher counter. Folks would come in from as far as Chicago for their Garlic Sausage, Chorizo, and the kind of service you get from a family run business.

 

Anthony brought his son Greg into the business where he learned how to run the butcher counter and a family style approach to customer service. Greg later passed down some of what he had learned to his son Jason, and now Jason is working with his sons to make great tasting food, this is where Pilacca Hot Sauce came from. 

 

What Makes the Sauce?

The "secret" to Pilacca Hot Sauce is the use of fresh peppers, quality olive oil, and a combination of spices passed down through the family.

The peppers are fried with olive oil producing a depth of flavor that we believe stands apart in a sea of hot sauce choices. Simple ingredients skillfully brought together to create something special. ​

Going toe to toe with other hot sauces, Pilacca is made with fresh peppers & olive oil where your typical sauce is almost all vinegar with dried peppers. It makes our sauce harder to produce, but the result is well worth the effort.
